New York Electrician Exam
Need of a License: Electricians, contractors and journeymen are not licensed by the state of New York. They are licensed by local government entities. Electrical work may also require separate or additional permits.

Qualifications needed to receive a License
Master Electrician: There is no statewide licensing of master electricians. Contact local jurisdictions.
Contractor: There is no statewide licensing of contractors. Contact local jurisdictions.
Journeyman Electrician: There is no statewide licensing of journeyman electricians. Contact local jurisdictions.
Exam Requirement: Inspections for work must be performed by an approved electrical inspection agency. Electrical safety inspections throughout New York State are provided by NYS Electrical Inspections.
Applicable Code: No statewide electrical code.
