Arkansas Electrician Exam
Need of a License: Electrical contractors and state-wide journeyman electricians need a license to work in Arkansas.Who Grants a License: Licenses are granted by the Arkansas Contractors Licensing Board.
Qualifications Needed to Receive a License:
Journeyman Electrician: A candidate must have at least 4 years of experience working for an electrical contractor.
Master Electrician: A candidate must have a degree in electrical engineering and one year of experience, or he/she must have six years of commercial or residential experience in construction, which includes two years as a journeyman electrician.
Residential Journeyman Electrician: A candidate must have 2 or more years of experience wiring at least 1 family residence.
Residential Master Electrician: A candidate must have 3 or more years of experience in wiring at least 1 family residence.
Exam Requirements: Both journeyman electricians and master electricians must receive pre-approval from the Arkansas Electrical Contractor’s Board before taking an exam.
A candidate for master electrician or journeyman electrician must pass the Arkansas Electrical Exam.
A candidate for the residential master electrician must pass the Arkansas Residential Master Electrical Exam.
A candidate for residential journeyman electrician must pass the Arkansas Residential Journeyman Electrical Exam.
Pre-approval by the Arkansas Contractors Licensing Board is required before taking the exam for all candidates.

Test Content:
Master Electrical Exam - The exam consists of 60 open book questions with a time limit of 3 hours.
Journeyman Electrician Exam - The exam consists of 60 open book questions with a time limit of 3 hours.
Residential Master Electrical Exam - The exam consists of 60 open book questions with a time limit of 3 hours.
Residential Journeyman Electrical Exam - The exam consists of 40 open book questions with a time limit of 2 hours.
All electrical candidates must receive a score of 70% in order to pass his/her respective exam.
Fees: There are fees to take the exam.

License Renewal Requirements: Master electrical contractors and journeyman electrical contractors must renew their license annually. Eight hours of continuing education every three years is also required in order to keep the license.
